Emillie is an intern for MEMIC. She sought out this internship because of her interest in project management. She likes being able to be a part of different projects and getting the chance to attend meetings. Her favorite part is seeing all the different managers and learning about their management styles. Her advice to other interns is, “Definitely ask questions and reach out. Your mentors want you to succeed.” Emillie is currently on a pre-med track at Bowdin but hopes to use her skills in the future for a job that involves problem solving and helping a company excel. 

Mady Chambers

Major: Business Administration: Business Analytics & Information Systems. 

Mady is a Project Management Intern for Systems Engineering. She works with a variety of teams to help coordinate projects, provide customer service, and support the Employee Success program.

Mady noted that one of the things she values about her internship is that she gets to do something different every day. She gets the chance to work with a variety of people and learn from them. Mady found her internship through social media and good reviews. This, combined with their culture, location, and opportunities, are what led her to apply. Her advice to future interns is “Go into it open-minded. This is a learning experience. I [previously] had an internship which showed me what I didn’t want to do but that is still learning”.

Mady’s dream job is to work for a company that uses current technology, is media-related, and where she can be creative. She wants to use resources and tech to help drive business and create content.

Aaron Carlton

Hometown: Brunswick, ME

College: Bowdoin College
Major: Math and Economics

Aaron is interning at MEMIC and was excited for the opportunity to stay in Maine and work in risk management. He is an Underwriting & Agency Services Intern in MEMIC’s Underwriting Operations department. In his role, Aaron researches trips, organizes tournaments and hotels, and works on policy analysis. Even working remotely, he feels the connections he has made with people from MEMIC has been the best part of the experience and everyone has been very welcoming.

Aaron’s advice to other interns is to ask as many questions as you can! He says, “Your mentors want to teach you and don’t expect you to know everything so there is no need to worry about asking for help”. Aaron loves working in risk management and hopes to continue down this path in his career.

Rachel Adam

Rachel is an intern at EnviroLogix working on Continuous Improvement efforts in the labs. She chose this internship because she likes Maine and was interested in the work this position focused on. She has the opportunity to help with variation reduction studies, tests for toxins and help solve the problems. Her favorite part of her internship is the unique experience of working in the labs. She is also enjoying her time with the other EnviroLogix interns since they are all staying in the same housing together. Her advice to other interns is “Get involved and volunteer when you can”. She hopes to stick with the chemical engineering industry in her future career.

Kai Meacham

College: University of Nebraska, Lincoln
Major: BioSystems Engineering: Environment & Water 

Kai is interning at EnviroLogix working in Research and Development. They found this internship through a reverse career fair and chose it for how cool the program is. Kai works in the lab developing and testing products. Their favorite part is getting the chance to learn new things and ask questions of professionals in the field.

Though Kai originally thought they would go into a different part of the environmental industry, they are happy they had this experience because it has changed their mindset on where they want to be and will lead them in a new direction.

Kai shares the advice to “not be afraid to ask questions. It’s better to ask 100 questions than to make one huge mistake that is hard to fix and to only do what you are comfortable with.” Kai’s dream job is now to work in research and development and hopes to go right into the industry after graduation.

Madelyn Rines

Hometown: Concord, NH

Major: Finance and Information System/Business Analytics.

Madelyn is a Wealth Management Intern for Bangor Savings Bank and this is her second summer with the company. Last summer she was a Summer Teller in a branch. She loved her experience and wanted to come back again to continue to be in Bangor Saving Banks welcoming environment. Her favorite part of her internship is the opportunity to meet great people. She notes how supportive the company has during the transition to remote work. Her advice to other interns is that when you are looking for an internship, “ Follow where life takes you. Apply to as many places as you can. Some may reject you and you may get many offers but do what feels right.” 

She hopes in her future career to work in finance. She’d be happy to have a job that combines data, information and customer interaction. 

Ross Dewaard

Major: Business Finance, Marketing and Management 

Ross is interning for Bangor Savings Bank. He found this internship when he met Bangor Savings Bank Senior Vice President, David Pease at a career fair. After meeting David, who explained the position, he knew it was the right fit. His typical day consists of working on special projects in the Payroll department. Ross’ favorite part of his internship is getting to meet so many people and experience such a great place to work. He appreciates how confident Bangor Savings Bank is in trusting him with projects. His advice to other interns would be, “When you are in your internship, make as many connections as possible.”  His dream job is to work for an incredible business like Bangor Savings and eventually own his own business.
