The Workforce Development Coordinator is responsible for supporting a portfolio of career exploration programs and coordinating programmatic activities with schools and industry partners. This position will coordinate events, partnerships, and programming that create, expand, and strengthen opportunities for students to connect with careers and professional development opportunities in companies throughout Maine including internships, apprenticeships, and Educate Maine’s newest project, the mobile bioscience learning lab. The Coordinator will also assist the workforce development team and leadership in realizing broader strategic goals, such as incubating pilot programs and supporting the Annual Educate Maine Symposium.

The Coordinator will work in close collaboration with internal teams including Maine Career Catalyst and Maine Mobile BIOLAB as well as a wide variety of external stakeholders, including employers, student learners, teachers, middle schools, community colleges, and colleagues throughout Maine. This remote position is grant funded and based in the Penobscot County region and will work closely with the Director, Workforce Partnerships and Workforce Development Specialists..

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

Maine Career Catalyst Programs

  • Field inquiries from and generate leads from companies and organizations seeking to partner on workforce partnership opportunities
  • Support program strategies for recruitment, assessment, development, and retention throughout the apprentice lifecycle
  • Participate in the preparation of proposals and / or pitch presentations to potential partners and funders
  • Research and maintain partnership and employer outreach database
  • Support program communications including curating content for social media, newsletters, promotions, and website updates in collaboration with the program staff and Communications Manager
  • Track and maintain documentation of pre-apprentice and registered apprentice participants
  • Assist with planning and execution of virtual and in-person events for Maine Career Catalyst’s flagship summer internship program

Mobile Learning Lab

  • Establish and maintain relationships with middle schools and educators to build a network of engaged partners for the mobile learning lab
  • Serve as the point of contact and coordinator for all school visits including school administration and educators working on the lab
  • Coordinate logistics, supplies, and scheduling for school visits and events, including daily schedules, ordering and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, parking information, and general laboratory and facilities management
  • Staff after-school events, such as family science night, and public events, such as conferences, festivals, and sporting events as appropriate, regionally
  • Serve as back-up support for educators facilitating age-appropriate bioscience activities and extended or enrichment opportunities to students onboard the mobile laboratory 
  • Identify lessons learned through evaluation findings and make recommendations regarding program design

Strategic Initiatives

  • Support planning and logistics for signature events across the organization including the annual Symposium and Education Leaders Experience visits
  • Attend conferences and meetings related to workforce development and career exploration
  • Support grant applications and funding priorities
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Completed degree program preferred or related relevant experience
  • Ability to self-start and creatively solve problems
  • Excellent verbal and written communications; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to diverse stakeholders
  • Strong partnership and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as with a team
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
  • Ability to organize and support multiple activities simultaneously
  • Strong computer, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel regionally and nationally and have a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with communications software like Canva, Constant Contact, Wufoo, and Loomly
  • Internship or relevant work experience in the areas of project management, non-profit management, event planning, internships, recruiting, or workforce development

This position will require the candidate to commute to events throughout Maine and be available for an in-person staff meeting occasionally in the Portland or Augusta area. Other day-to-day work can be done remotely. This position requires state-wide travel, evening, and weekend hours as needed.
